Anna-Carin Karlsson, PhD studentMy PhD project is about behavioural differences in relation to pigmentation in chickens. The chickens I use originates from an advanced intercross between Red junglefowl and white leghorn and are selected for a particular gene. This gene, PMEL17, regulates pigmentation of the plumage. Wild type birds have a pigmented plumage whilst a mutation causes a completely white plumage. By comparing the behaviour of pigmented chickens with the behaviour of white chickens I have found differences that are probably caused by the PMEL17 gene. Adress: |
